A Richmond man was arrested after a car chase with the Richmond Police Department (RPD).

An officer with the RPD observed a vehicle that matched the description of the silver car coming towards the intersection of Lexington Road and the Robert R. Martin Bypass. The vehicle allegedly continued southbound onto the bypass at a fast speed – 85 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, according to police documents.

The officer initiated a traffic stop to allegedly find that the vehicle had expired tags and was being driven by George Anthony Walker Jr. of Richmond. Walker apparently identified himself when approached by the officer while also displaying multiple signs of intoxication.

Another officer with the RPD arrived on the scene, who allegedly noticed an open container of brown liquid and an open bottle of Hennessy. Walker was allegedly processed through LINK/NCIC, where his license status was confirmed to be suspended due to a DUI.

According to arrest citations, Walker did not comply when the officer gave him verbal commands to step out of his car. The other officer moved in to open the driver’s side door while the officer who initially responded to the scene stepped in to physically remove Walker from the vehicle.

Text in arrest citations claim that Walker was able to put his vehicle into drive and take off as one of the officers was still partially inside of the vehicle. The officer was nearly hit as Walker fled the scene towards Old Wilderness Trail.

Two days later on July 26, the RPD received a call from the Probation and Parole office that Walker was on a scene with probation officers. The initially responding officer and two other officers with the RPD went to the scene and arrested Walker. He was lodged at the Madison County Detention Center.

Walker Jr. was charged with reckless driving, no registration plates, possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle, driving on a DUI suspended license, first-degree fleeing or evading the police, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, and speeding 26 miles per hour or over the speed limit.

Dennis O. Ogboo, Lexington, was arrested on July 25 and charged with failure to appear in court and willfully setting fire on land not owned or controlled by himself.

Gregory T. Conner, Richmond, was arrested on July 26 and charged with fourth-degree assault.

Cynthia K. Puckett, Richmond, was arrested on July 26 and charged with third-degree escape and tampering with a prisoner monitoring device.
